We appreciate your interest in becoming a Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Volunteer! Our district offers a variety of activities you may choose from when volunteering your time. Simply review all guidelines, complete, and submit a volunteer application. Upon approval you will receive instructions on next steps.
It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government issued identification card including your full legal name. It is important that you provide a valid email address so you can be notified as to the status of your application and for future communication.
VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES AND POLICIES: Hillsborough County Public Schools requires all volunteers and community partners to review and agree to the volunteer procedures, protocols and guidelines included within this volunteer application. Additional board policies, procedures and guidelines may apply. BACKGROUND SCREENING: In order to maximize student and employee safety, it is school board policy to screen all applicants via a criminal and sexual predator/offender background check. Submission of this application indicates your agreement to this background check, with the exception of persons under the age of 18 and verified current active HCPS Employees.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS VOLUNTEER ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES are based on the Hillsborough County Public Schools Hiring Guidelines. Click on link to view the HCPS Volunteer Eligibility Guidelines.
COURT-ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE: Hillsborough County Public Schools does not allow court-ordered community service hours to be served as volunteer time. Individuals who are required to complete court-ordered community service are directed to contact other non-school agencies.
LEVEL 2 FINGERPRINTING is required for all overnight chaperones. (Chaperones must be 21 years of age or older; exception: a parent or legal guardian under 21 years of age may also chaperone); any volunteer that has one-on-one limited/unsupervised interaction with students (including but not limited to overnight chaperones and any other occasion where the volunteer has limited supervision including some mentoring programs and/or if instructed by the district/school); or at the request of the district and/or school administration. Level 1 background approval is required prior to proceeding for fingerprinting. Fingerprint procedures and next steps are sent directly to volunteer/community partner via email after Level 1 background approval status has been determined. Additional fingerprinting is not required for verified current active HCPS employees.

Any person, who falsifies, attempts to conceal or omits criminal history information or any other required information during or after the application process, will constitute grounds for disqualification from potential or continued volunteer service within the District.
FRS Retirees - If you are a retiree from the Florida Retirement System and have been retired less than one year, you must call FRS to confirm your eligibility to volunteer. Call (844) 377-1888, ask for the Enrollment Department. Once you have confirmed that you are eligible to volunteer, you can complete the HCPS Volunteer and Community Partners Application (HB 1121) and select appropriate affiliation (FRS Retiree)
STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 will not be permitted to chaperone. Chaperones must be 21 years of age or older with the exception of a parent or legal guardian under 21 years of age.
