Code of Conduct
Our children are the most important gifts God has entrusted to us. I promise to strictly follow the rules and guidelines in this Code of Conduct as a condition of my providing services to the children and youth at Saint Brigid of Kildare Parish.
I also agree to attend a "Protecting God's Children" session, submit to a criminal background check, and provide a copy of my Photo ID with this application.
I will:
Safeguard children and youth entrusted to my care at all times.
Faithfully represent and practice the teachings of the Catholic Church with integrity in word and action.
Treat everyone with respect, loyalty, patience, integrity, courtesy, dignity, and consideration.
Avoid situations where I am alone with children and/or youth at Church activities, ensuring that two deep ministry is a standard practice.
Use positive reinforcement rather than criticism, competition, or comparison when working with children and/or youth.
Refuse to accept expensive gifts from children and/or youth or their parents without prior written approval from the pastor or administrator.
Refrain from giving expensive gifts to children and/or youth without prior written approval from the parents or guardian and the pastor or administrator.
Report suspected abuse to the pastor, administrator, or appropriate supervisor. I understand that I have a moral obligation to report suspected abuse.
Cooperate fully in any investigation of abuse of children and/or youth.
Obey all traffic laws when driving children and youth and adhere to the Diocese of Columbus Volunteer Driver and Cell Phone Policy, if applicable.

I will not:
Smoke or use tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, in the presence of children and/or youth.
Use, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol at any time while working with children.
Use, possess, or be under the influence of illegal drugs at any time.
Interact with or engage children and youth through personal social media.
Pose any health risk to children and/or youth (i.e., no fevers or other contagious situations).
Strike, spank, shake, or slap children and/or youth.
Humiliate, ridicule, threaten, or degrade children and/or youth.
Touch a child and/or youth in a sexual or other inappropriate manner.
Use any discipline that frightens or humiliates children and/or youth.
Use profanity in the presence of children and/or youth.
Drive a vehicle not in compliance with regulations and/or inspections while driving children.
I have read and understand the above Volunteer Code of Conduct. I understand that any action inconsistent with this Code of Conduct or failure to take action mandated by this Code of Conduct may result in my removal as a volunteer with children and/or youth.
Facility Usage Agreement
I agree to the following:
- I am enrolled in Raptor and am compliant with Diocesan Protecting God’s Children requirements (over 21 years of age, current background check and PGC training, proper ratio of PGC-compliance adults at events with minors).
- I understand that I am responsible for ensuring all Protecting God’s Children guidelines are followed by participants.
- I understand that children must always be under direct supervision, including restrooms, and may not roam throughout any campus building or be unsupervised outdoors.
- I understand that all campus buildings close at 9:00pm Sun-Th, and 7:30pm on Friday. Unless previously approved, all participants must vacate the buildings by those times. Extended hours for special events must be approved prior to the event.
- I understand that campus buildings and outdoor areas are tobacco, drug, and weapons free.
- I understand that responsible alcohol consumption is only permitted if no minors are present in the same building.
- I understand that no candles or fire may be used in any campus building.
- I understand that I may not prop any doors open that could allow unauthorized access.
- I understand that I need to contact the Facility Manager (jgroce@stbrigidofkildare.org) at least 3 business days before the event(s) with seating preference (tables, theater, conference), number of participants or tables, and audio/visual needs (a diagram is acceptable).
- I understand that if changes to the room set up need to be made within 3 business days of the event, I will contact the parish office to make the changes.
- I understand that no person is allowed to climb ladders or scaffolds or operate the wall doors without the express permission of the Facility Manager.
- I understand that nothing may be attached to the walls, ceilings or doors, even for temporary use, without the express permission of the Facility Manager.
- I understand that glitter, confetti or similar decorative items are not allowed in the buildings.
- I understand that no food or drinks containing permanently-staining dyes are allowed in the buildings.
- I understand that if food or drinks are served, all preparation areas must be cleaned and returned to their original condition.
- I understand that the room must be returned to the condition in which it was found (trash picked up and put in trash cans).
- I understand that if I use a kitchen or cooking facility, I will follow all posted rules and return to its original condition.
- I understand that I will report to the parish office if anything gets broken or is not working properly.
- I understand that no equipment or furniture may be removed from any building.
- I understand that no outdoor play equipment is permitted inside any building except the gymnasium. Care will be used to minimize the risk of damage to the interior of the building when using outdoor equipment indoors.
- I understand that all campus activity will be cancelled if there is a Level 2 or 3 weather emergency during the event time.
- I understand that if these policies are not followed, my committee and I may lose the privilege to use campus facilities in the future.
