District Volunteer Application

Welcome to the Visalia Unified School District!

Our District is now using Raptor Technology to approve visitors and volunteers on our campuses. Please use the information provided on our District Website and Volunteer Clearance Matrix to help determine what will be asked of you when checking in at our school sites and what requirements are needed to volunteer. School sites have the right to limit visitors, guests, and volunteers in the interest of safety, impact on learning, and equity. Everyone on our campuses who is not a student or staff member must be approved by a District Administrator or designee to be on site.

It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government issued identification card including your full legal name. It is important that you provide a valid email address so you can be notified as to the status of your application and for future communication. If you are unable to provide an email address, please use the district’s email address. All information collected on the application will remain confidential and not be shared outside the volunteer program.

Every volunteer must have an approved application on file to volunteer.

As part of the Volunteer Application process, you will need to review the Volunteer Orientation Training Video.

For Student Observers, please make sure to select "General Clearance (Level 1)" and "General Clearance (Level 1B) - For Student Observers ONLY". For Student Observers (Preschool/Early Education), please make sure to select "General Clearance (Level 1)", "General Clearance (Level 1A) - For Preschool ONLY", and "General Clearance (Level 1B) - For Student Observers ONLY".

For Student Observers, once approved with volunteer clearance, please contact the school office prior to your observation hours to coordinate your observation visits.

For Student Observers (Preschool/Early Education), you will need to upload the email from Margaret McLain (mmclain@vusd.org), Early Childhood Education Lead, regarding submitting an online volunteer application in the Raptor Volunteer Management system on the Documents Page.

For Walk On Coaches (Athletic/Band/Dance), please make sure to select “General Clearance (Level 1) AND “Extended Clearance (Level 2A) - For Walk On Coaches (Athletic/Band/Dance) - PAID - ONLY” or “Extended Clearance (Level 2B) - For Walk On Coaches (Athletic/Band/Dance) - NOT PAID - ONLY”.

Documents

The following documents are required by the state to authorize clearance within this school district.

ALL VUSD Volunteers will need to submit a current copy of TB Results or Screening. General Clearance (Level 1) is REQUIRED for any level of volunteer clearance.

*If you are a current VUSD employee, please upload a document with your full name (first and last name) and your Employee ID number for the required document.

*If you are a parent/family member interested in volunteering in Preschool/Early Childhood Education, you do not have to upload an email for Preschool/Early Childhood Education. Please upload a photo or document stating that you are a parent/family member or you can upload a copy of identification (government-issued ID, Driver's License, School ID).

For prospective volunteers interested in Extended Clearance (Level 2), DOJ and FBI Background Clearance is required. Here is a link to the LiveScan form that will need to be completed; and a link to LiveScan providers that can submit your fingerprints for processing.
