Welcome to Volunteer In Public Schools (VIPS)! Thank you for your interest in volunteering in HISD schools. The VIPS application is done annually and you will have to reapply starting on a set date by the VIPS administrator in August. August is the start of the new academic school year and runs till the end of July for VIPS.
To efficiently serve our community, we are asking all volunteers to register no more than two weeks prior to their scheduled event. The background check takes 3-5 business days to be processed. You will receive an automated response from donreply@raptortech.com. Thanks for your interest in volunteering in HISD schools.
VIPS recruits thousands of parents and community partners to donate their time and knowledge in support of the district’s primary goal to increase student achievement. Volunteers contribute in areas such as mentoring, tutoring, fundraising, career education, enrichment programs, extracurricular and community service activities and office and classroom assistance.
All volunteers are required to complete the VIPS Volunteer Orientation (CLICK HERE) prior to applying to become a volunteer and agreeing to the annual background check. Once approved volunteer may volunteer in any HISD schools for the current school year.
It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government issued identification card including your full legal name. If you have a middle name please include it on the application. This information will be used to process the required annual background check. (See lists below of acceptable forms of ID). Your background check will be processed within 3-5 business days. It is important that you provide a valid email address so you can be notified as to the status of your application and for future communication. An email address is required in order to complete the application process.
Please Note: If you are planning to volunteer in Read Houston Read, Real Men Read or Reading Roundup, please be sure to choose the program on your application under “Organizations”
The acceptable forms of ID for the BGC are:
- Texas Driver’s License
- Driver’s License (issued by any state in the U.S.)
- Texas Identification Card
- Identification Card (issued by any state in the U.S.)
- Official U. S. Military ID
- Official Passport
- Resident Alien Card
- Matricula Consular Card
