We appreciate your interest in volunteering for the Burton School District Volunteer Program. Our district offers a variety of activities that you can choose from when you volunteer your time. Simply complete and submit a volunteer application and once approved, you will receive instructions on the next steps.
It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government-issued identity document, including your full legal name. It is important that you provide a valid email address so that we can notify you of the status of your application and for future communications. If you are unable to provide an email address, please use the district email address. All information collected on the application will be kept confidential and will not be shared outside of the Burton School District volunteer program.
Volunteer Procedures: Volunteers under the DIRECT SUPERVISION of certificated employees School/Classroom Volunteer:
School/Classroom Volunteer: Adults who volunteer in the classroom or on campus. Requirements: Provide original California Driver License or California Identification Card, AND provide a copy of a Tuberculosis Test administered within the last 4 years during the application process online. School/Classroom Volunteer cannot ride on school transportation and are not allowed to chaperone.
Chaperone: Adults who participate in a school activity unsupervised by a certificated employee (i.e. outdoor education, field trips supervising small groups of students, overnight field trips, or authorized to ride on school transportation). Requirements: Complete the requirements for School/Classroom Volunteer above AND provide original California Driver License or California Identification Card, AND provide a copy of a Tuberculosis Test administered within the last 4 years during the application process online.
All Clearances will be processed by the Student Services Department. You cannot volunteer unless you have been cleared at one of the levels above. Fingerprint forms for Chaperone applicants are available at the Student Services Office, 633 N Westwood St, Porterville, CA 93257 and ONLY for those with a completed and Chaperone volunteer application. Chaperone applicants must complete the fingerprint requirements through Burton School District regardless of fingerprint clearance at another school district or employer – NO EXCEPTIONS. Volunteer status will be updated in Aeries and accessible to the school site(s). Volunteers are responsible for:
Setting up their appointment for the TB test and Fingerprinting. The cost of the TB test and fingerprinting “rolling fees”. Burton School District pays for the fingerprinting if done prior to Dec 1*. Rolling fees are what the printing location charges for their service. The cost of the fingerprinting and rolling fees for printing done after Dec 1.
Volunteers with a felony conviction or pending felony conviction are not eligible for Chaperone volunteer clearance. Misdemeanor convictions or pending misdemeanor convictions will be approved on a case by case basis. All convictions or pending convictions for felonies or misdemeanors or their equivalent must be disclosed on the application form. Failure to do so will result in the termination of all volunteer rights at any level. Subsequent arrest records may terminate volunteer rights.
*The District will pay for up to two family members per child/family to print as Chaperone volunteers if done by December 1st. This does not include the rolling fees; those are at the volunteer’s expense. Volunteers who print after December 1st are responsible for the full cost of the printing and rolling fees. Additional family members may print at their expense for the printing and rolling fees. Families new to the District after December 1st, will have the printing fees paid for by the District for up to two family members.
