Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS)! To help ensure student and staff safety, all prospective volunteers who may potentially be in contact with students while unsupervised by ACPS staff–whether that is chaperoning a field trip, tutoring, coaching or assisting in a school or ACPS facility–must first complete a volunteer verification process and obtain approval from our school division. Approved volunteers are required to check in and scan a photo ID at the school’s front office every time they volunteer with ACPS.
The first step is to complete and submit this online application and upload your photo ID from the list of official IDs (see “documents” section of this application). The Raptor Volunteer Management system will send you an email message when your application is received as well as updates, including a final message about approval. In most cases, you will be asked to schedule a brief identity verification virtual meeting for ACPS staff to authenticate your ID and documents. This final step is done via Zoom and takes less than five minutes. In-person meetings are also available upon request to the ACPS volunteer specialist (contact below).
It is important that you enter information on this application that matches your government- issued identification card, including your full legal name. Please provide a valid email address for updates on your application and future communications. Messages will come from the Raptor Volunteer Management system or the Volunteer@ACPS email address. If you are unable to provide an email address, this may delay processing time but please be sure to provide a phone number so we can contact you.
The application process typically takes up to 7-10 business days and, once approved, this status is valid for two years. The Raptor system will notify you via email about renewal of your volunteer status one month before the expiration date. All information provided for this application will remain confidential.
Please note that you will be asked whether you have ever been convicted of a barrier crime that would result in the denial of this application. This link provides more information, since applications cannot be approved if a barrier crime is involved, in accordance with policy.
If you have questions about the volunteer application process, please visit www.acps.k12.va.us/volunteer or contact Volunteer Specialist Kathy Mimberg at volunteer@acps.k12.va.us or 571-547-1697. In some schools, family liaisons may be able to assist volunteers with the application; contact information for family liaisons is available online.
Thank you,
Alexandria City Public Schools
