District Volunteer Application

** While Hernando County School District is working diligently on the safety of everyone please note that volunteers will have very limited to no access the first nine (9) weeks of the 2020/2021 school year: from August 31 to October 28 **

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Hernando County School District Volunteer Program. You are helping build a relationship between schools, parents and our community. Our district offers a variety of activities you may choose from when volunteering your time. Simply complete and submit a volunteer application and upon approval you will receive instructions on the next steps. If you are applying to be a Level 2 Volunteer as a Mentor or Tutor you will be required to attend an orientation upon application approval.

It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government issued identification card including your full legal name. It is important that you provide a valid email address so you can be notified as to the status of your application and for future communication. Please remember to check your spam/junk file in your email for possible communication. All information collected on the application will remain confidential and not be shared outside the volunteer program.

If you are new to volunteering or a returning volunteer, Florida Law does require all school volunteers undergo a new background check each year. Volunteer applicants 18 years of age and older are subject to a background check against the national sexual predator/offender registry and must pass a criminal background screening.

A volunteer must be approved before volunteering. Once you've received your approval email, you may begin volunteering.

The deadline for volunteer applications is the second Friday in April of each school year.

All volunteer candidates with HCSD are subject to a criminal history check. In Florida, the entire arrest record is revealed to school districts, including sealed and/or expunged records and military court proceedings. Applicants must disclose this information and supply proper paperwork even if told differently by a lawyer, judge, or other law enforcement individuals. You must attach the court disposition. If you were given other information by a judge then those written instructions would need to be uploaded and submitted with application. Information that must be disclosed includes any arrest that occurred in your lifetime whether you were charged or not charged; regardless of verdict an official disposition must be included.

By providing your signature, you are agreeing to abide by the rules and regulations of the District Volunteer Program. One or more of the volunteer activities you may have selected could require fingerprinting, (Level 2 background check). Please make sure that you provide the district with any arrests/criminal charges before submitting your application, failure to attach the proper documentation/disposition using the link below will result in automatic denial to volunteer and you will not be able to apply again until the next school year. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. If you have any questions please ask your school's volunteer coordinator or contact the Volunteers in Education District Coordinator before submitting your application to avoid any problems with your application.

**ALL volunteers must contact the VIE office at 352-797-7070 x468 within 48 hours of any arrest or new charge as it may or may not have an adverse effect on your volunteer status**

If you are applying for a Level 2 Volunteer you must first have permission from the school you want to volunteer at. Please have the approval email sent to demitro_k@hcsb.k12.fl.us by the school volunteer coordinator.
