Sumter District Volunteer Application

We appreciate your interest in volunteering for the Sumter County School District Volunteer Program. Our district offers a variety of activities you may choose from when volunteering your time. Simply complete and submit a volunteer application and upon approval you will receive a notification via email.   BE CERTAIN TO COMPLETE ALL REQUIRED FIELDS ENTIRELY. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN APPLICATION DENIAL AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REAPPLY AND START THE PROCESS FROM THE BEGINNING.


It is very important that the information you enter on the application matches your government issued identification card including your full legal name. It is also important that you provide a valid email address so you can be notified as to the status of your application and for future communication. Please remember to check your spam/junk file in your email for possible communication. All information collected on the application will remain confidential and not be shared outside the volunteer program.

  • All applicants must complete the application online
  • In order for us to conduct a proper background check, proper identification (i.e. driver’s license/ Florida ID) is required during the application process
  • All applicants who are interested in a Level 2 status must complete a background check with fingerprinting through our personnel department
  • It will take approximately 2 - 4 weeks for applications to be board approved 

Volunteer Application

All persons wishing to become a Volunteer for Sumter County Schools must have an application and background clearance on record and be School Board approved, before attending an event or working in the classroom. A criminal Background screening is done every 3 years and an FDLE/NSOPW is done every time you scan to check in to a campus. 

Be advised: Failure to disclose an explanation concerning any arrest/conviction, guilty verdict, or entered plea of no contest (nolo contendere), even if adjudication was withheld of the crime including but not limited to: The date of the offense, why you were arrested/convicted, found guilty or entered a plea of no contest and the outcome of the arrest/conviction, will result in the denial of your volunteer application.

Volunteer Level 1 and Level 2

Depending on the need(s) at a school or function, a volunteer may be designated as a Level 1 volunteer or Level 2 volunteer.

Level 1 Volunteers

FDLE background clearance required. 

Duties assigned within the presence of a Sumter County School employee may include, but not be limited to chaperoning daytime group field trips, being a helper in a classroom or at a school site, or assisting in a department.

If you have questions about your volunteer application, please contact the school(s) that you wish to volunteer for and ask for the volunteer coordinator.

 

Level 2 Volunteers

Fingerprinting is required to conduct a State and National background clearance.

Duties as assigned outside the immediate presence of a Sumter County School employee such as, but not limited to, chaperoning, overnight field trips, mentoring, and volunteer coaches. Level 2 volunteers will be notified via email if fingerprint registration is necessary.

Please be sure to read the Volunteer Hand Book carefully.  It is located above the application link on the district web-page.  This provides you with the orientation needed to volunteer in the Sumter School District.

 

Volunteers are subject to Florida’s Sunshine Laws unless the individual notifies the district that they are exempt per s. 119.071, Fl. Stat.
